How do the flowers grow?

30 Apr

Each and every single day, without fail, I get a handful of freshly picked flowers. Each and every single day, without fail, I oooh and aaaah and give lots of kisses for the beautiful flowers I have been given. We have bushes surrounding our entire house that grow these magnificent red flowers.   I like to think my reaction and sweet kisses are the sole motivation for these special deliveries.

We are just entering rainy season and Kyah is pretty excited to be able to wear her rain jacket and rain boots again. They still fit thank goodness!  The other day she dolled herself up, got out her magnifying glass, and then headed outside to find out how the flowers grow.  At least that’s what she told me she was going to do.  I went out with my camera and my little Ramona was splishing and splashing.  When she saw me, she instantly began her investigating.  Yet another stage in her life that I just adore.

A piece of butterfly heaven

10 Apr

“If nothing ever changed there would be no butterflies.”

Cody was invited by our new friends at BridgePoint church to join them on an adventure through the canopy.  We didn’t want to be left behind, but me being 7 months preggo and Kyah being 5, we weren’t going to be able to zipline, repel, and Tarzan-swing through the jungle with the rest of them.  Luckily, in the canopy, there was a butterfly sanctuary.  We’ve been to one of these before, but this one was leap years above the rest.  We were so busy watching butterflies lay eggs (we could actually see the butterfly squeezing them out onto the leaves), cocoons hatch before our eyes, caterpillars squirm along,  and many different types of butterflies land on our shirts that two hours had passed and the group was back before we knew it.

If you know anything about my sweet Kyah than you know she loves butterflies.  She couldn’t get enough and didn’t want to leave.  She’s already talking about the next time we visit….although she’s pretty much convinced she will be zipping through the jungle on a cable prior to seeing the butterflies.  My little adventurer.

"Baby butterfly eggs!"
